What We Do

Soroptimist believes the most effective way to empower women and girls is by providing them with access to education. Educated women and girls are far more likely to realize their potential.

Soroptimist's Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women annually disburses about $1.7 million in education grants to more than 1,200 women who have overcome personal obstacles. Award winners may use the grants to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain additional education or training. Recipients go on to enjoy improved employment prospects, greater earning potential, higher self-esteem, and serve as positive role models for their children.

Dream it, Be it

Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls gives girls the tools they need to achieve their education and career goals, empowering them to break cycles of poverty, violence, and abuse. This event invites young women in high schools around our region to engage in networking and skill building opportunities.

Girl of the Month is a local project that began in 1964 to honor high school senior girls who excel academically and have been giving back to our community through their participation in sports, work and community service. Each year two scholarships are awarded with over four hundred local girls recognized for their achievements.

The Micki Weisbarth Scholarship honors the late Michelene “Micki’ Weisbarth by investing in the education of women. This award, established in 2022, supports women pursuing their education with financial need. Through generous donations, this annual award will provide assistance to recipients by helping offset tuition costs or to assist with day to day expenses so they can focus on reaching their dreams.
